Nutraceuticals

The term nutraceutical is a combination of "nutra", to nurture, and "ceutical", from pharmaceutical, i.e., foods that nurture and improve health.

It is natural medicine, taking care of the people's health and preventing diseases.

A nutraceutical is product that is isolated or purified from foods, which is presented as a bioactive compound, which should have a medicinal effect on human health and which is generally packaged in the form of capsules, tablets and other presentations that require prescription of doses.

A nutraceutical may contain different combinations of nutrients, being recommended as coadjuvants in the treatment of various diseases.

Nutraceutical products or FOOD SUPPLEMENTS are compounds intended to supplement our diet and to provide the body with the necessary nutrients, in sufficient quantities, for a regular functioning of the body.

These are convenient products, to be taken during activities, and may help increase energy intake or vitamin-mineral intake.

Most food supplements may be used freely. This means that they do not present any health risks; nevertheless, they must be taken according to the instructions on the package.

Whenever possible, it is recommended that they are taken with meals, because this is the ideal time and also because the body absorbs nutrients efficiently, thanks to the digestive system that is stimulated by the food.
